The Orthotic Department at Sheffield Children's Hospital has been run by Blatchford since 1997. It sees patients from all over the UK as the hospital is a specialist centre of excellence.
Children and young people can be seen at the hospital alongside other appointments and clinics, or just as routine out patient appointments. There is a small workshop for minor repairs and adjustments.
Patients can also be seen at Ryegate Children's Centre, where many Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists are based. The SCH Orthotists also cover local specialist schools so that children do not need to have time out of school to see the Orthotist. The Orthotists also attend the Gait Lab review clinic. The Paediatric Prosthetics is run by the Northern General Hospital at the Mobility & Specialised Rehabilitation Centre.
Referral Process
The patient must be seen by a Consultant, Registrar, Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist first. Then a referral can be sent to Orthotics from one of these health professionals by emailing [email protected] or by post.
