Alan Tanner, Prosthetist at Charing Cross, has been presented with a British Healthcare Trade Association (BHTA) award for his Lifetime Service to Prosthetics.
Alan was presented with the prestigious industry award in recognition of his high quality clinical care, provided to amputees across London and in the military for over 40 years. Alan is passionate about his clinical work and is dedicated to improving the lives of amputees. He is always willing to support his colleagues and is ready to offer help and advice on complex patient needs.
Throughout his career spanning almost 50 years, Alan has worked as a technician and prosthetist at the Roehampton, Crystal Palace and Charing Cross limb fitting centres. Alan was also one of the first prosthetists to provide prosthetic care to the injured servicemen being treated at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court. His tenacity and clinical reasoning skills were invaluable in helping to rehabilitate those returning from conflict.
Outside of the clinic, Alan has contributed to many projects during his career, including the introduction of the Blatchford Graduate Programme, which supports the development of junior prosthetists. Alan also forms part of the special interest team at Blatchford; testing, evaluating and gathering clinical feedback on new prosthetic products in development.
Alan will be greatly missed from the company and profession when he retires next year- his 50th year in the industry.
